I am a make up artist and hair stylist living in Ringmer, Lewes in East Sussex. My work takes me to the most beautiful venues where people choose to get married throughout Sussex, Surrey and London and I love being a part of your special day
Being a part of your day includes so much more than just providing hair and makeup; Having a dress maker as a mum means I am well educated in how to do up your dress whether it is a corset back, lace or lots of small buttons and I'll make sure to get all those petticoats pulled down and sorted out! I tend to be chief time keeper, door opener, button hole putter on'er. I will educate you and your bridesmaids on how to hold your bouquet and have even provided transport for bridesmaids who hadn't quite thought about how they were getting to church!
I have always been a make up artist and hair stylist my entire life, from playing with my girls world aged 4 to designing hair and make up for school performances aged 15 to designing hair and make up for catwalks in 2015
Therefore, I do not see this as a job - should a job be so much fun? I do consider myself to be extremely fortunate to have had the experiences I have gained so far in life and I look forward to the opportunities that arise in the future.
I love meeting new people and watching them transform before me. Just the smallest amount of make up in the right place makes eyes appear brighter, complexions appear smoother and inner confidence go through the roof.
I opened my own Make up Academy in March 2014 and love sharing my knowledge and passion with people who want to gain more experience and to work in the same industry.
As well as doing hair and make up for weddings I work on a lot of photo shoots - my work can be seen all over the internet on various websites, I design hair and make up for designers catwalks, I style wigs to be used at London Fashion week and Brighton fashion week, I work at Glyndebourne Opera house and teach enrichment days for the Roya Opera House and I also make wigs for various theatre productions. It would take me too long to write everything I do so please have a look at my gallery to see a small selection of my work.
I started my make up career at Covershots international, a large photographic studio in London, making people over to have their photos taken. It was here that I learnt skills, met photographers and models, improved on my artistry and got my speed up! After this, I worked in a few retail shops including Sheiseido, based in Selfridge's, Molton Brown, and was lucky enough to be involved in the launch for a brand new make up shop based in Covent garden called Pout. It was whilst I was at pout that I was asked to create make up ranges for the company and to start training up other artists. This introduced me to an exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ look into the background of the make up industry, where I learnt a lot about the quality of make up and how it’s components are made.
From Pout, I started work at Charles H Fox Ltd – The ‘Kryolan’ in England. I worked in the head office, once more creating ranges – I was lucky enough to visit the factory in Germany where all make up is made. I taught make up workshops from the shop, and it was at Charles Fox that I was introduced to cosmetic camouflage make up. Cosmetic Camouflage make up is something that interested me instantly – A make up that has enough pigment in it too disguise birthmarks, tattoos, scars and the like, which is set by a powder and spray to make it waterproof and swetproof, enbling people to carry on with their day to day lives, even in the rain or when swimming.
With all this product knowledge and experience gained, I was lucky enough to work in various film studios round England including Harry Potter and the philosophers stone at Leavesdon – A fantastic and magical film to work on...... Every day I was sitting in the great hall with the floating candles above me, watching dame Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman and the rest of the cast film. Most days I was accompanied by Robbie Coltrane whilst he awaited his bits to film whilst doing my best not to join in his food fights! I was also lucky enough to work on set with Kenneth Branagh and Kate Winslet for Hamlet, Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom for Troy in Malta, Penelope Cruz and Nicholas Cage in Cephalonia, Greece for Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and Brendon Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the mummy and the mummy returns. – My favourite memory? Probably following Alan Rickman around the Harry Potter set, not being 100% certain whether it was actually him, the actor or his body double! (they looked too alike)
I have more recently found myself on the filmset of Kingsman - Secret Service and look forward to working on many more films.
I have worked for various television shows including Bad Girls, Footballers wives, Hollyoaks, BBC and SKY news, TOWIE and Celebrity Wedding planner. I loved the glamour of footballers wives, and the grit of bad girls – especially when there was any special effects make up involved and having to draw tattoos on actors for each episode.
I do still get a big buzz when I see my work in print! When working for magazines and newspapers, sometimes you get booked and asked to do a shoot to the editors requirements, sometimes people see past photos and ask if they can print them in their article. Whether My name gets published or not is another thing – But I always get excited to see my work, which has been in the following publications; FaceOn, Professional hairdressing, Creative Head, ETC, Closer, Heat, Now, Zest, Marie Claire, Evening Standard, Bliss, Your Sussex Wedding, Femme Rebelle, Solis, Afi, Elegance, Devolution, Dive Girl, Brides, you and your wedding, and many more! I love getting booked to work for closer magazine and the Sun magazine as the editor’s ideas are always so different and wacky! – I love getting creative and the fact that the end result isn't to be ‘polished’ but to be ‘tongue in cheek’ – My Favourite shoot with closer? Alan Carr as all four x-factor judges 2012! – We had 1 hour to complete all four looks whilst in his tiny dressing room at the ITN television studios.
Another way I get to see my work is on a lot of different company websites as I am regularly booked for local companies to do the hair and make up, selling their product. A few of these companies are Annabelle’s Wigs, Sali Gallien, Zita Beauty, Posto9, Samba Couture, Taboudoir, Curve Couture, Artemis skin care to name just a few.
Whenever I can fit in the time, I like to design hair and make up for Charity fashion and catwalk shows as this really brings out my creativity. I choose my designers well so that I can complement their clothing perfectly with my hair and make up creations. I always make sure that I have total free artistic control for these designs and love seeing the whole look come together. The bigger and more dramatic the show, the more I love to design!
